Like we said in the first part of our article AntiVirus software with the virus dictionary method utilizes prior knowledge of virus characteristics to identify any already known virus that could infect your computer.
The anti-virus software examines a file and and checks it with a virus dictionary, put together by the software developers of that antivirus program. A dictionary with the 'signatures' of all the viruses known by those engineers.
